INTERNSHIP

As a part of your practicum evaluation, you are to thoroughly answer the following questions.  Your practicum coordinator will use this information to evaluate your successful completion of your site specific objectives. In explaining each question, be sure to link your answers with your site specific objectives.  This will help you and the practicum coordinator evaluate your progress during the practicum experience.  Save and print copies of these reports to help compile your summary report and to be included in your Practicum File maintained at GSU.

 

1.Overall, rate this week’s learning experience on a scale of 1-10 (10 = most favorable) 5 out of 10 for the first week. Due to just starting and having to find my way.

 

 

2.Area/Department in which you worked and specific responsibilities for this week: This week I was given the task of redoing all the restrooms in the Hollis building on campus. New tile, layout, update codes (ada, doors,etc)

3.Your candid reaction to this week’s job occurrences, new experiences, and observations. This week was pretty good start. Finished first project in two days. Went to lunch with everyone in the office for June birthdays. Was able to register to drive the ga southern cars around campus

4. What important knowledge did you gain this week? Updated my skills on CAD and gained knowledge of which materials to use for certain locations and was able to view other restrooms on campus and see what design worked and which did not and put that towards my design.  Materials class was a big help here!!!

5.What skills have you used this week that you learned in the GSU program? USED MY BOOKS all WEEK…. Thanks goodness for our codes book saved me a few times. Knew how to finish the project early using my knowledge of cad and revit and went beyond what was asked of me and made my project 3d with actual finishes on the model….   found out that AutoCAD 2012 has a few issues compared to the 2014 and 2015 that we have been using.

6. Identify any problems, conflicts, joys or thrills that have come your way this week. Joys this week was for sure having Mary Kate down the hall my first week.. she was such a blessing and introduced and showed me around.  Thrills driving gsu truck all over campus… problems… had two mild heart attacks my first day…. Went to lunch and came back and my computer was logged off… freaked out and remembered that I did save my work… but 2nd guessed my self until I turned the computer back on.. it was all still there ! 2nd time was I was looking over everything on my desk, and there is a panel built into my desk so I started mashing buttons and turned my computer off…. Opps … lost a few things that time. Lol… but now I know !

7.What changes would you like to make to improve the employment situation and experiences you've had this week? Really wish this was a paid internship, and wish ga southern would allow me to park at the building, but bc im a student I have to park at the RAC and wall down the street (rain or heat). 

 

 8.Of the objectives satisfied this week (as listed above) describe in detail how each was met.

                Objective #2- Practice selecting a variety of finishes for specific interiors or commercial environments.

This was met while working on the Hollis bathroom. Picked out tile for the flooring that needed to be larger and darker to hide dirt and that would be very durable that will last over time, decorative tile for the wall and backsplash.Also solid mater for counter tops and finished for the bathroom dividers.

                 Objective #5- Practice documenting existing building conditions including furniture and flooring by measuring and photographing and translating into 3d image.

This is where I was able to go to the site and take picture and measurement of all the spaces and put them into CAD and revit. Where I made a construction plan and then a final plan with all the final measurement and 3D model.Also all documents such as finish sed. Etc.

                Objective #6- To become more familiar with process of creating reflecting ceiling plan

                                With the Hollis restroom project I had to use the same ceiling plan but update it by add ing more light and a return. As of right now there are only supplies in the restrooms and no fans. Was very interesting to figure out all the placements of those itmens in such small space.
